Firefox version 78 was the last supported Firefox version for Mac users of OS X 10.9 Mavericks, OS X 10.10 Yosemite and OS X 10.11 El Capitan. These users were moved to the Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR) channel by an application update. This was done to provide security updates until the final Firefox 78 ESR update (version 78.15.0esr) was released on October 5, 2021. Affected users will not receive any further security updates.

OS X Mavericks (version 10.9) is the 10th major release of macOS, Apple Inc.'s desktop and server operating system for Macintosh computers. OS X Mavericks was announced on June 10, 2013, at WWDC 2013, and was released on October 22, 2013, worldwide.
The update emphasized battery life, Finder improvements, other improvements for power users, and continued iCloud integration, as well as bringing more of Apple's iOS apps to OS X. Mavericks, which was named after the surfing location in Northern California,[5] was the first in the series of OS X releases not only for being named for places in Apple's home state since earlier releases used the names of big cats, but also for being the first one to be a free upgrade since Mac OS X 10.1 "Puma".[6][7][8] It also removed some of the skeuomorphic designs from OS X Mountain Lion, and it is the final Mac operating system to feature the Lucida Grande typeface as the standard system font since Mac OS X Public Beta in 2000.
Apple announced OS X Mavericks on June 10, 2013, during the company's Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) keynote (which also introduced iOS 7, a revised MacBook Air, the sixth-generation AirPort Extreme, the fifth-generation AirPort Time Capsule, and a redesigned Mac Pro). During a keynote on October 22, 2013, Apple announced that the official release of 10.9 on the Mac App Store would be available immediately, and that unlike previous versions of OS X, 10.9 would be available at no charge to all users running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) or later.[9]
OS X Mavericks can run on any Mac that can run OS X Mountain Lion; as with Mountain Lion, 2 GB of RAM, 8 GB of available storage, and Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) or later are required.[11] Mavericks and later versions are all available for free.[12]
One complaint is that Apple removed the local sync services, which forces users to get iCloud to sync iOS devices with the desktop OS.[55][56] However, this feature has since returned in the 10.9.3 and ITunes 11.2 updates.
10.9.1 is the Mavericks available on the app store now. Apple has incorporated the incremental update into OSX, as they traditionally do. The link I posted is the link needed to download Mavericks. Regards.
And yet 10.9.1 will not open because I do not have 10.9. THAT is the message I get with that download on my computer....so, again, I am searching for 10.9 because apparently THAT is the only way I am going to be able to move up to Mavericks.
First of all, remove the OS X 10.9.1 download you did, because you do not need it. Then, open the Mac App Store and download OS X Mavericks. You can only download the full OS X Mavericks installer from the Mac App Store, so this is the version you have to use to upgrade from an older OS X version.
When the download finishes, the OS X Mavericks installer will appear, so follow its steps. The full installer was updated by Apple in order to include OS X 10.9.1, which does not mean that you need OS X Mavericks to install it (it would not make sense)
I successfully download Mavericks 10.9.1 and when I try to open it to go through the install I get this Alert Message: This update requires OS X version 10.9. and then the ONLY option I have is to click Close which closes the install operation.....
Instead, you need to download OS X Mavericks from the Mac App Store. Although you see it is OS X 10.9.1, Apple updated that installer in order to upgrade your Mac to the most recent OS X Mavericks version, so you do not need to update OS X again after upgrading. See my first comment
NO. I downloaded the version from the Mac App Store and THAT is the one that will not open and That is the one that gives me the message about needing OS X 10.9. I hadn't been to the first download site you listed.

In its look and feel, Mavericks is Mountain Lion, with a little more spit and polish. The 10.7 update of Lion wrought many system-wide changes, which were tidied and refined again for 10.8 Mountain Lion. Now 10.9 is superficially a gentle refinement again.
With prices steadily dropping, it was almost inevitable. Lion was $29.99, and Mountain Lion went for a very reasonable $19.99, but at its fall event in San Francisco, Apple dropped a bombshell by announcing that its new desktop operating system, OS X 10.9 Mavericks would be a free download. While it's true that Mavericks is not the OS paradigm shift represented by Microsoft's Windows 8 (itself recently updated for free to a much improved Windows 8.1), Mavericks does bring quite a few new capabilities to the Mac. In fact, the company notes more than 200 new features(Opens in a new window).
OS X Mavericks or OS X 10.9 is the latest major operating system from the techie giant Apple. It was released last October 2013 and equipped with more than 200 new features that users will truly enjoy. This gorgeous system version comes totally free which is quite beneficial for Mac users.
This amazingly free application can convert video on Mavericks online. And what makes it extra special is that it supports a wide range of resolutions. From 144p which is friendly for mobile to 1080p needed for screen display, the free online Mac video converter offers it. Additionally, you can adjust settings as per your need by changing resolution, bitrate, frame rate, channels and sample rate.
The new Compressed Memory feature sounds absolutely utopian: the operating system applies data compression to the least important content held in memory to free up more available RAM. And it does so with such efficiency that the CPU and storage devices work less, saving battery as well.
"But when you have multiple apps running, your Mac uses more memory. With OS X Mavericks, Compressed Memory allows your Mac to free up memory space when you need it most. As your Mac approaches maximum memory capacity, OS X automatically compresses data from inactive apps, making more memory available."
The (4) footnote Apple references in the graphic notes that "testing conducted by Apple in May 2013 and June 2013 using production 1.8GHz Intel Core i5-based 13-inch MacBook Air systems with 256GB of flash storage, 4GB of RAM, and prerelease versions of OS X v10.9 and OS X v10.8.4. Performance will vary based on system configuration, application workload, and other factors."
This release uses Xcode 13.1 and experimental GNU Fortran 12 arm64 fork. If you wish to compile R packages which contain Fortran code, you may need to download GNU Fortran for arm64 from -project.org/tools. Any external libraries and tools are expected to live in /opt/R/arm64 to not conflict with Intel-based software and this build will not use /usr/local to avoid such conflicts (see the tools page for more details). Always re-install XQuartz when upgrading your macOS to a new major version. This release supports Intel Macs, but it is also known to work using Rosetta2 on M1-based Macs.
